About Allex
Allex Tarr is a filmmaker based in Los Angeles, known for her coming-of-age stories that place flawed, ambitious female protagonists at the forefront.
Originally from Oklahoma, Allex moved to LA in 2015 after earning her Master’s in Film & Creative Media Production from the University of Sussex in Brighton, England.
She began her career at BuzzFeed, where she played a key role in launching multiple channels, including BRING ME (travel), AS/IS (inclusive beauty & lifestyle), and TASTY, one of the world’s largest food channels. During her time there, she directed over 100 videos filmed around the world, from glaciers in Alaska to Cajun food tours in New Orleans, and collaborated with major brands like Netflix, Warner Bros., Universal Studios, and Samsung.
After many years in the branded world, Allex transitioned back into narrative storytelling, directing 60+ episodes of web series for publishers like Brat TV. These projects focused on teens and early 20-somethings navigating the highs and lows of young adulthood, from first loves to personal reinvention. Several of these series were picked up by Amazon Prime, expanding their reach to a wider audience.
Allex also wrote and directed THE RITZ, a period romance shot on-location in Oklahoma and inspired by her grandmother’s true story of escaping an abusive household in the 1950s. The film was selected for the Academy Award-qualifying LA Shorts and screened at festivals nationwide.
Currently, she is preparing to direct her first feature film, EXIT STRATEGY, with the support of the Alliance of Women Directors’ Rising Directors Fellowship in 2025.
With a passion for stories about resilience, transformation, and young women finding their voice, Allex is dedicated to developing projects that explore identity, relationships, and the nuanced experiences of ambitious women stepping into their power.
